Havering Freegle - Our History

Havering Freegle began on the evening of the 4th December 2004 under the name of Havering Freecycle. Nearly 5 years later, in September 2009 the Havering group moved away from the Freecycle Network with many other UK Freecycle groups to join the UK based Freegle Network. This happened after moderators from the UK grew unhappy with the way the organisation was being run from the US. The Freecycle Network had changed leaving hundreds of Freecycle volunteers unable to support it. After failed talks with the founder of The Freecycle Network, Freegle was formed.

Name changes aside, the Havering group continues it's success due to the participation of many local people who have a passion for grassroots reuse, keeping great, usable items from landfill and building community spirit within the Havering area.
